We really do mean to update the site more regularly…
So what has Bicycle Lafayette been up to this year? A lot! Another successful Bike Month has come and gone. We held some fun rides and events that had some great turnouts! We also managed to successfully help get a 3 foot passing ordinance passed in Lafayette. Now West Lafayette and Lafayette both have this helpful ordinance in place and active. We have also been honing our Bike Rodeo skills. Our Bike Rodeo has become a highly requested even by many local area schools and organizations, which we couldn’t be more excited about. Over last winter and during the beginning of 2014 we began working with the city of Lafayette to secure funding for a bicycle master plan. With some grant money secured we are hoping to see the city begin moving forward on plans to incorporate more bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure in accordance with their (hopefully) soon to be created bicycle master plan. The wheels of change don’t turn as fast as we want some times, but they do turn, and that is important!
We are currently planning a few more fun rides for the year. Information will be coming out soon so stay tuned. With the recent realization that we have the potential to increase our impact in the community we have also decided to pursue some changes to our organizational structure. We plan on firming up some of our core processes and adding more definition to some of our roles in an effort to help scale for growth. We plan on taking the winter to re-organize and coming out strong in 2015 for our biggest (or at least busiest) year yet!
We have a mini Bike Rodeo tonight (8/29) at Columbian Park. Next month we should be helping with another Bike Rodeo as well as Bike Bus with a local elementary school.
